Some Important Things to Remember

After you change the URL of your Tumblr blog, you will actually need to create a secondary blog that has the same URL with the previous blog. The reason is for your followers to be redirected to your new blog whenever they visit the old one. To do this, simply click on the “Customize Appearance” button and choose Edit HTML. After that, delete the whole HTML code and substitute it with <meta http-equiv=”refresh” content=”#WAIT; url=BRANDNEWURL”>.

On the HTML chunk, remove “BRANDNEWURL” and replace it with the address of your new URL and then type in “WAIT” with the number of seconds that you want your visitors to wait before they will be redirected to your new site. You can use “01” code for 1 second, or “02” for 2 seconds of wait, and so on.

Once you have your new site up and running, you will certainly notice a great number of traffic on your site and that’s when you realize that hosting Tumblr on your own domain name is indeed very useful.
